Question by Popsy27: Needs advice on traveling to Orlando with 2 kids ages 2 and 8?
We are planning to go to Orlando for the first time with kids ages 2 and 8 in Jan. or Feb. of 2009. We’re planning to enjoy Disney as well as other family oriented places in Orlando (excluding SeaWorld and Universal – we’ll go there next time). We also hope to stay in a hotel with kitchenette and has a quick access to the theme parks. I need hotel and itinerary suggestions, and other helpful tips. Btw, it will be a 7-day vacation including air travel from the Midwest. Thank you.

If you want to stay on Disney property I would suggest you stay in a cabin at Ft Wilderness. It has a full kitchen plus a separate bedroom for privacy. Ft Wilderness is now considered a moderate resort so you won’t be paying the high prices you’d expect. They have buses that will take you to and from the parks. Since you’ll be traveling by air you’ll also be entitled to free shuttle service to and from the airport on Disney’s Magical Express if you stay at one of their resorts. This in itself will save you and your family quite a bit of money on transfers. Have a great trip!

  • The other posted gives good advice. If you choose to stay OFF property you can find even lower rates. The area around Orlo Bronson Highway (US highway 192) and over on International Drive are filled with hotel, motels, restaurants & anything else a visitor might need. The north end of International Drive (often called I-Drive) is especially popular with tourists. If your not renting a car pick one with shuttle service & save the $ 12 per day parking fee at Disney.

Exploring the 4 Disney parks will take most of your time. l recommend a stroller for the little ones. Its a lot of walking even for adults. They will like magic kingdom the most. Note that Animal Kingdom tends to close earlier then the others. Make reservations for any sit-down restaurant in the parks. Have a good trip.

  • I’ve never had to stay at a hotel but if you can shell out anywhere from 500-1000 bucks a night the grand floridian is amazing…

i think your kids are too young to stay in the animal kingdom wilderness loudge they might get scared of the wild animals

for parks i recommend magic kingdom it has the most rides for younger kids

  • Check out the seralaga hotel in kissamee stayed there the last 2 years. They have different rooms so that everyone will feel comfortable. they are right next to old town. There are rides, games, and shopping. Check out for more information. The pictures on are actuall pictures of the hotel. I can tell you that the rooms do look like the pictures. Get a room in the back the it is quieter. the childrens pool is in front but the jacuzzi is in the back pool. get the magic card from and ask for the magic card rate, save you alot of money.
