Luxury accommodation set to enhance Khayelitsha's tourism landscape
New luxury accommodation is set to open in Khayelitsha this April, adding to the township’s growing profile as a destination for cultural and experience-based tourism.
Mteto’s Child Villa, developed by local entrepreneur Luzuko Mteto, will offer a five-suite property aimed at both domestic and international visitors seeking stays outside traditional hotel districts.
Mteto describes the villa as a “home away from home”, combining modern comfort with elements of local culture.
“We are focused on delivering a high-quality, memorable township stay,” he said.
“Guests should feel both the comfort of the space and its character.”
The property will include two presidential suites and three luxury rooms. Its design blends industrial and contemporary finishes, with exposed concrete, wood, and acrylic textures, alongside minimalist interiors and curated artwork.
Mteto said the design approach is intended to reflect its surroundings while maintaining a refined modern aesthetic.
Mteto’s other business interests in the area include Spine Road Lifestyle, an events and entertainment venue that employs 40 permanent staff, most of them young people from Khayelitsha.
He said the villa builds on that work while offering visitors a different perspective on township life.
“We are showcasing a side of Khayelitsha that is creative, energetic, and evolving,” he adds.
The villa is about 24km from Cape Town International Airport, 35km from the city centre, 34km from Table Mountain, and 36km from the V&A Waterfront.
Nearby attractions include Spine Road Lifestyle, Rands Cape Town, Kwa Ace, and local township tour operators.
With domestic travel rising and international arrivals reaching record levels, developers are increasingly positioning township-based luxury accommodation within South Africa’s broader tourism growth market.
