Safari made easy: new route simplifies travel between Victoria Falls and Okavango Delta

South African travellers can now combine two of Southern Africa’s most iconic safari destinations far more easily, following the launch of a new seasonal air service by Proflight Zambia.

The airline has introduced the first direct aviation corridor linking Victoria Falls and the Okavango Delta through a new route connecting Lusaka and Livingstone in Zambia with Maun in Botswana.

The service operates three times a week – on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays – from May to October, aligning with the region’s peak safari season.

Operated using the BAE Jetstream 41 aircraft, the new route is expected to simplify travel between some of Southern Africa’s most sought-after wildlife destinations.

South African travellers departing from Johannesburg or Cape Town can now book the full journey to Maun on a single through-ticket through Proflight Zambia.

Travellers flying from Johannesburg will connect via Lusaka with an overnight stop before continuing to Maun the next morning.

Meanwhile, Cape Town passengers can fly directly to Livingstone, explore Victoria Falls, and later continue onwards to Maun, allowing the travel experience itself to form part of the broader safari journey.

Until now, combining Victoria Falls with Botswana’s Okavango Delta often required travellers to route back through Johannesburg, adding extra travel time, costs and logistical complications.

According to Captain Josias Walubita, the new service addresses a long-standing challenge for safari travellers across Southern Africa.

“South African travellers have always understood that Victoria Falls and the Okavango Delta belong in the same itinerary – the geography makes it obvious. What has held them back is the aviation infrastructure to make it practical,” he said.

“With this route, we are opening up a safari corridor that makes one of the world’s great multi-destination wildlife journeys genuinely accessible for the first time.”

The new route creates easier access to a broader Southern African safari circuit that includes Zambia’s South Luangwa, Lower Zambezi and Kafue National Parks, alongside Victoria Falls, Botswana’s Okavango Delta, Chobe National Park and the Makgadikgadi Pans.
